The church had its beginnings in the 1950’s. The Lord moved upon a group of people who knew that the Lord wanted a church where all the truths of God could be proclaimed and where people could find the Lord as their Savior. There was 17 people, this included some teenagers. They rented for $5 a month what used to be the 2nd Baptist Church on Washington Ave. in North Adams, MA. The building hadn’t been used for years so a group of people went to work and cleaned and painted. They named the church Zion Pentecostal Church. Rev Gerald Wilson was the first pastor. They held their first business meeting on February 28th 1950. The Spirit of the Lord moved in each service. Doris Landy, secretary, was present when the Holy Spirit came forth and told the church that the walls of the church were coming down, that the Lord was moving them out and that people were going to come from the north, south, east and west and that our church was to be a lighthouse. They then began a building fund program. it was April 16th ,1958 when the first building fund offering was taken. On July 1st, 1959, the name of the church was changed to Bethel Pentecostal Church. Also, on July 1st 1959, the church voted to buy the land on 55 Harding Ave. as they stepped out in faith and saw the Lord move out with them. During the summer of 1960, the lot was cleared of brush and trees by the men of the church. With a lot of hard work they finally had their church building built. They held their first service on October 20th, 1963 in the new building. The building was dedicated to the Lord at a special service on December 15th, 1963. At no time did the building of the church building cease because of lack of funds. The Rev. Gerald Wilson served as pastor for 14 years. He preached his farewell sermon on November 29th, 1964. On December 16th, 1964 Rev. Donald Gustafson of Westfield, MA was chosen to be the new pastor. He served for 2 years. Pastor Gustafson resigned, November 27th, 1966. On January 25th, 1967, the Rev. James Barco became thenew pastor. He served for 3 1/2 years. Pastor Barco resigned August 31st, 1970. On September 16th, 1970, the church voted to have Rev. Anthony Testisicca as pastor. On March 15th, 1975 the church voted to buy the land next to the church property. Pastor Testisicca completed his service in 1991, after having served faithfully for 21 years, the last 2 while blind. Pastor Plaster then came and served as pastor from 1991-1995 until hisyoung wife passed away. Rev. Dennis Castella came and served the church from 1995-2006 during which the mortgage was paid off. On April 1st 2007, Rev. Robert Bellofatto Jr was installed as the pastor. In 2010 the church name was changed to Northern Berkshire Christian Church. Many new families came to faith in Christ and also lots of updates to the building and grounds were completed during this time.
